Photo Petition – bring a UN commission of inquiry to Burma

Image

The photo petition highlights individual human rights cases across Burma. Photos from individuals around the world will be collected in an online photo montage to deliver to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on 27 September, the 3rd anniversary of the Saffron Revolution.

Twenty-two years ago on 8 August, Burma’s army brutally massacred as many as 10,000 peaceful pro-democracy demonstrators marching against increasing poverty and oppression. The serious human rights violations and economic mismanagement that led to the national uprising in 1988 have continued to worsen under the current regime.

This year’s elections will not bring an end to the serious international crimes being committed against the people of Burma. Rather, the elections will enact the 2008 Constitution which will allow the regime to continue to perpetuate human rights violations without any legal recourse for those affected.

All photos were taken at the Peace Festival in Berlin and in front of the Myanmar embassy in Berlin/ Germany.
