New "Student-Friendly" App Switches Facebook Into Study Mode

Okay, so we’ve all been there.

Up past midnight, eyes burning and bangin’ our head over the same solution we can’t figure out. Well, there’s that saying that “misery loves company” and thanks to a new technology those late study nights might get a little easier for high school, college and continuing education students.

Hoot.me is a new Facebook app that allows you to switch into “study mode” by the click of a button. Instantly you’ll be able to connect with other students from Prescott to Rome all working on the same homework as you! Here’s how you sign up: Once you’re at Hoot.me type in the study area you’re working on. You’ll be asked if its okay to turn off your secure browsing feature in Facebook and you’re in (you can easily remove the app if you change your mind by going to your security settings in Facebook). The app also includes a video chat option.

When I switched to “study mode” I wasn’t able to find any other students working on ecology, but there were study groups for resource conservation, economics and marketing. So regardless if you’re studying sustainable development, social justice, or green IT you can find others who are majoring or studying the same thing – if not start a group! Although Hoot.me is a fairly new idea, it could potentially become a useful tool for those studying in green education, those studying online, on campus or abroad – once more catch on, invite their friends and participate. What do you think of the new Hoot.me app?

I've tried this app and it's seriously very useful/helpful when you're stuck on a question. Odds are, the majority of students are in study mode right before a test and don't be surprised if many in your class are in the same situation. This app enables you to study as a group or look for help via functional chatrooms or video conferencing.
