If you don´t want to support nuclear energy or fossil fuel which has a bad impact on climate and environment in many countries you can choose electricity generated from renewable sources (see the PriceWaterHouse-Report attached). Companies run on Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)—also called green certificates, green tags or tradable renewable certificates—which means you're buying power from a company that buys/ produces green power. For indian consumers there is no exclusive green energy from power companies obtainable yet.
* Ask your power provider for green electricity to spread the idea consistently!
* Use the sun and other sustainable energy sources!
To make yourself independent of fossil fuel use renewable energy sources wherever possible. In India with its powerful sun all over the year you can use solar power for cooking and heating water as well as for lighting up your house (india solar light). The water can be heated for a wide variety of uses, including home, business and industrial uses. Heating swimming pools, underfloor heating or energy input for space heating or cooling are common examples of solar water heating. Solar systems are cost competitive in many applications when you account for the total energy costs over the life of the system. Although the initial cost is higher than that of conventional energy sources, the fuel (sunshine) is free. Plus, they are environmentally friendly. To take advantage of solar heaters or other solar systems, you must have an unshaded, south-facing location (a roof, for example) on your property.
* Support rural projects on sustainable energy!
For example UNEP program for India or RESET projects on renewable energy. The more people connected with local, renewable energy sources, the less is the chance that they will be connected to the national power grid, where electricity is mainly generated by fossil fuel. It also can bring energy to areas where there wasn´t any yet. There is no need to wait nearly 20 years to benefit from a nuclear power plant, after which the village people would still only be passive consumers of power. With installing solar panels or other renewable energy sources at villages, in just a few days you can bring about drastic change in the lives of the people.
